From the Desk of: Robin Wakeham, Physical Therapist
Dear Friend,
Yes, walking can be good for lower back pain. In fact, moderate physical activity, such as walking, is often recommended as part of the treatment for lower back pain. Walking can help strengthen the muscles that support the spine, improve flexibility, and promote overall spinal health.
Walking can also help reduce stiffness and inflammation in the lower back, which can contribute to pain and discomfort. Additionally, walking can help promote weight loss and improve cardiovascular health, which can help reduce the risk of developing chronic lower back pain.
However, it's important to start slowly and gradually increase the duration and intensity of your walks, especially if you are currently experiencing lower back pain. Walking on uneven or rough terrain, or wearing improper footwear, can also exacerbate lower back pain, so it's important to wear supportive and comfortable shoes and choose appropriate walking surfaces.
If you have chronic or severe lower back pain, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any exercise program to ensure that it is safe and appropriate for your specific condition.
Thanks,
Robin Wakeham
P.S.- Don't forget you're just one step away from relieving your back pain...
